Palaver Logo

As an intern at Palaver Journal, I was given the task of designing a new logo for the literary magazine. Palaver is an interdisciplinary online journal that combines both literary and research work. When I began the initial sketches for the logo I thought about the word “Palaver” as a whole and what it meant in conjunction with the magazine. I was struck by Palaver being represented by a bird because one meaning of “palaver,” and the reason why the journal is named Palaver, is to continuous talk between two groups in conjunction. Similar words that were listed was “chatter” which made me think of birds.
After researching birds, I decided that Palaver was best represented by a sparrow. Sparrows symbolize cooperation, productivity, and teamwork which perfectly describes Palaver. Because Palaver is all about bringing together the works of writers of many genres, I felt that the logo should be a combination of all colors to symbolize this cooperation of writers. I used the CYMK (cyan, yellow, magenta, black) tones because they are brighter and create more colors than RGB (red, green, blue).
